Watch a video of the truck pull below!
Every year Firefighters take part in fundraising events for Muscular Dystrophy, the most familiar being the ladder sit. This year on July 2nd was a Truck Pull event held in Cambridge Narrows – believed to be the first. This is where teams composing of 8-10 members pull a loaded fire truck (approx 35000 lbs) 100 feet while being timed.
Some of the Upper Gagetown Fire Dept “sisters” were unable to take part in this event so the call was put out to their neighbouring “sisters”, and it didn’t take long to get a team of 10 female firefighters. The team consisted of five (5) from Upper Gagetown, three (3) from Upper Kingsclear, one (1) from Cumberland Bay and one (1) from Nashwaak Valley. This was the birth of the Ash Kickin Girls!!!
Not only were they the first all-female firefighter truck pull team, they pulled the truck 100 feet in 20 seconds (placing 3rd overall), and raised the most money for that event that day. Their efforts earned them a special invitation to take part in the Muscular Dystrophy Truck Pull taking place later this year on September 17th in Sussex. There are 11 teams already registered!
