Stacey Russell Assistant Manager of Fredericton Tourism talks to us in Officer Square about FROSTival 2016, a fun filled celebration of winter in and around Fredericton.
Winter in Fredericton just got a lot more interesting with Atlantic Canada’s largest winter celebration running between Jan. 21st and Feb. 14th.
Gone are the days of waiting out the cold weather. With so many fun interesting and entertaining things to do, FROSTival encourages us to enjoy this time of year. As stacey says, “The community has come together to celebrate winter, don’t hibernate, come out and celebrate.”
How could you hibernate with Two of New Brunswick’s largest winter festivals taking place during the run of FROSTival. One of which is WinterFesthiver. With Approximately 200 volunteers, it takes place between Feb. 13th and 14th this year, and was inspired by Winterlude in the mid 1990’s in the Nation’s Capital Region. www.winterfesthiver.ca
The other being Shivering Songs, which will kick off FROSTival from Jan. 21st to Jan 24th. Known as a midwinter celebration of songwriting and storytelling, hosting internationally renowned artists in rustic and historic spaces throughout Downtown Fredericton, New Brunswick. This event has quickly grown into a landmark cultural event that garners the attention of music and literary fans throughout Atlantic Canada and the Northeastern United States. www.shiveringsongs.com
With over 100 events, that’s just the beginning of your options for things to do during this month long event. “There’s all sorts of choices for families and for adults. There’s nightlife, there’s outdoor and there’s indoor. FROSTival is made up of all sorts of cultural experiences as well as sporting experiences and everything in between.” Said Russell.
To name a few; Craft beer gardens, moonlight snowshoeing, whiskey nosing, outdoor curling, snow sculptures and even a chance to enjoy a three course meal for 31 dollars, this festival is jam packed with things to do.
“We can’t believe it’s only the fourth year and it’s already grown to this size.” Said Russell, who has been blown away by community support for the event.
So whether you are looking for musical acts, outdoor family fun, competitive sporting events or an opportunity to discover Fredericton’s diverse cultural scene, Fredericton FROSTival has you covered!
